This website contains the current research progress in foamed bitumen undertaken at Department of Civil Engineering, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. The main aim of the research is to investigate the feasibility of foamed bitumen as an alternative in the stabilisation method of unbound granular material. Through the readings done, it is found that foamed bitumen can become a very promising and advantageous stabiliser in overcoming problems raised by the use of conventional methods such as lime, cement, cutback, and emulsion. However, there is a lack of guidance in using this product although foamed bitumen has been investigated since 1956 by many researchers all over the world. A continuous research is therefore needed to encourage practitioners to use this product since they rely more on well-documented products. This research is carried by the Principal Investigator, Dr. Mofreh Saleh (lecturer at Department of Civil Engineering), Pranakusuma Sudhana (Master of Engineering student), and with a meaningful help from Frank Greenslade (technician at Civil Engineering Transportation Laboratory). The research is funded by Transfund NZ and has gained great interest from roading bodies. The research has been planned to be divided into three stages. First, the investigation of foaming capabilities of NZ local bitumen. Second, the investigation of mixes properties with respect to locally available materials. Third, the investigation of mix strength and reliability for roading purposes using CAPTIF. The majority content of this website is a part of ongoing thesis written by Pranakusuma Sudhana to partially fulfill the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering. This website has been organised in a very simple way to let visitors browse all information quickly and easily.
